[Jason Arday](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Arday), who became the University of Cambridge's youngest Black professor when he was appointed in 2023, has died at his home in south London, nine days after resigning his position amid allegations of academic misconduct. He was 41.

The Metropolitan Police said officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man at a London address on Friday afternoon, and that he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is being treated as unexpected but not suspicious.

Arday's family described him as a gentle and generous man who had endured a sustained campaign of abuse since taking up his Cambridge post, calling the loss of 'this amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and son' devastating. Cambridge's vice-chancellor, Professor Deborah Prentice, said the university was desperately saddened by the news.
