You do not need a diagnosis to know that some feelings refuse plain language. Grief arrives without sentences. Fear sits in the body before it finds a name. Poetry has always understood this. Long before psychology had a vocabulary for trauma, poets were already writing the shape of it, and readers were already finding themselves inside those lines.

## A Medicine as Old as Writing Itself

In Ancient Egypt, physicians wrote words on papyrus, dissolved the papyrus in water and gave the solution to patients to drink. The words themselves were the treatment. In Ancient Greece, the entrance to the library at Thebes carried an inscription describing books as medicine for the soul, and Aristotle wrote of catharsis, the release that tragedy produces in an audience.
